I have the same issue (where my ring size is determined by the base of my finger rather than by my knuckle).

I originally had a 6.5 but sized down to a 6 because I felt like it was too loose at 6.5. While I don’t really like the “ring hug” (love that term! haha), I definitely think it’s a good fit and any looser would be too risky.

I’ve also lost some weight and hope to lose a ton more, so I figure the base of my finger might get smaller by a least a little.

Elizabear:  Yeah, it sucks, but it’s better to have a little ring hug action than end up with your ring down a sink!

I’m a size 4.5 and my ring fits perfect imo. If it were any looser it would totally fall off when it’s cold. I can comfortably remove it without it catching on my knuckle and feeling like its going to rip my flesh off. Lol

i have the “ring hug” too. I think it’s pretty inevitable on most people, especially if you look at your fingers and the base of the finger appears to be the same width as your knuckle. I feel like the knuckle is the true determining factor for what a ring size should be since the ring needs to comfortably pass over it. So if you have fingers where the knuckle looks the same width as the base of the finger and you are wearing a ring just slightly tighter than the width of the knuckle then naturally when this is “hugging” the soft skin around the base of the finger it’s going to pinch that area a bit, if that makes sense.

most of the ladies ive seen who dont get the “hug” also have a big distinction between how wide their knuckle is and how skinny the base of the finger is.

Elizabear:  Beautiful ring!  I am all for a tighter ring, because I would hate to lose that sucker!  A 3.25 is too loose for me, but a 3 is airing on a tad too small, but I chose the 3 because I’d rather it tighter and me have to tug a little than for it to fall off.  My knuckle is a little larger than the base but not by much.

See the slight muffin top when my fingers are like yours too?  I’d prefer that over a ring that spins around a ton as well (oh and my rings are soldered together).  Excuse my fingers, I actually really hate how my fingers look.

Yep same problem here. And because of it I have indents when I take them off. Not to mention I have horrible wrinkly hands. I’m a 4.5..I think I should have gone 4.75..5 would have the ring turning..I dunno. I like them snug. I want them to stay where they are supposed too but I hate the indents. I have stupidly short fingers too and am too scared to fling a ring off.

Tight enough so I have finger “cleavage”. When my fingers get cold my rings slip around and almost fall off, so I didn’t want to go bigger.

I totally understand this thread. I wear a 7. Sometimes (usually when I’m cold, but not always) my promise ring just sets & spins.. Other times it’s so tight I have to move it to my pinky for a few minutes to let my finger breathe!! Also my left ring finger is the smallest out of all my fingers (expect my pinkies but they’re pretty close) which I think is strange, like even my right ring finger I can barely get my ring over! Lol! I think I’m gonna stick with the size 7 though when my e-ring is ordered, I don’t wanna risk losing it!

My rings were an 8. That felt too big. Like could slip off big. Then I had tem sized to a 7.5. That gives me a little ring hug (clever term). But the bottoms of my fingers are meaty and bigger than my knuckle. So I guess 7.5 is where I’ll stay.

Elizabear:  Thank you!  I hope it helps you decide what size to go, a little big or a little small.

I can probably fit in a 5.25 but it would get to tight if my hand swell so I stuck with a 5.5. Sometimes it spins around a little sometimes it gets tight so I didn’t resize. The jewlers said with the band it would fit better and since I plan on getting another band it will fit perfect all together.

There is some rule not to sure how it goes but something along the lines of, you should be able to put it on in a second and take at least 5 seconds to take it off. Mine goes on easy and when I take it off I have to twist it around a few times so for me it’s perfect.

Also if you do resize your ring will more than likely be gone for over a week plus.
