Messrs. Joe and Bob Smith-Jones? That’s probably what I’ll end up doing for a few of my invites. The Mr. & Mr. sounds weird to me.

The plural for Mr.: Messrs.

The plural for Mrs.Mesdames

ETA: I just found this on etiquette-guide.com:

“For same sex couples (if they are married with the same last names, please use:

Messrs. John and Billy Jean

Mesdames Susan and Alicia Smith

If they are not married, the same rules above apply.”

I think the 1st one has a nicer ring to it.

When I did my invites, I did not include the honorifics. so, my invite would have said: Joe & Bob Smith-Jones (no “Mr.”)

I used the plural Messrs. and usually you add the word “the”

(mine were brothers but the same applies)

The Messers Joe & Bob Smith-Jones

I’m not doing honorifics either, which makes it way easier, hehe. Seeing “mesdames” in front of our names would just look too odd.

I will be keeping an eye on this post. I was wondering the same thing. Thanks for posting.

I was rather amused when our invitation to my son’s wedding came addressed to “Mrs. 2d Bride and Mrs. Not Froofy.”  Neither one of us has ever gone by Mrs.  And I’m old enough to remember that Mrs. is never used with a woman’s first name unless she is divorced.

For the record, Miss Manners says that gay couples who have the same last name (hyphenated or not) are correctly addressed as “The Mesdames Sally and Betty Jones” or “The Messrs. Trevor and William Cartwright.”

@bellagio:  I had just gotten the same info from some friends a few weeks ago, I wish I had seen this earlier as I totally misspelled it.

I would check and see if they had the same last name or not. If not, I would just say to Mr. Joe Smith and Mr. Bob Jones.
