My Save-The-Date Cards are postcard style so there’s not a lot of room to write out a lot of stuff. I read that on formal invitations you write out everyone’s name which I plan to do when the time comes, but is it acceptable to just write ‘The Smith Family’ or Matthew & Mary Johnson instead of listing out all the names or Mr. and Mrs. Matthew Johnson on the STDs? I don’t want to commit any etiquette faux pas. Thanks!

kristin36890 : STD’s can be more informal. Just be aware that if you address an STD to “The Smith Family”, they are entitled to think they can bring all the children. If you don’t plan to invite the children, be more specific on the STD.

Our Save-The-Date Cards were more informal – we dropped the titles and just wrote “Mary & Matthew Johnson”. We also knew that none of our guests would be offended by the more informal address (as some older people always like to be referred to as Mr or Mrs).
As @julies1949 said, if you put “The Smith Family” it implies that children are also invited. We didn’t use this route, as we had an 18+ wedding.

I did “Bob and Jane Smith” to couples and if we are inviting the whole family including the kids “The Smith Family.”
