I am making my invitations and save-the-dates myself and I have found a variety of different etiquette rules online about how to address the envelope to different types of situations. My main questions are
If my friend is dating someone and I know his name but I am not friends with him personally, should I address the envelope to:
Miss Emily Smith and Mr. John Doe
Miss Emily Smith and Guest
I am a little confused when to use the word “guest” and when not to.
What is the etiquette for nick names?
For example, many people I know ONLY go by the name Mike or John but should I address the envelope to Mr. John Smith or Mr. Jonathan Smith. I don’t even know if his real name is Jonathan—is this something I should ask him or should I just address it to the name I call him?
