@Jas00:  It’s not actually strange that she’s not asking you directly, because you are the guest of honor, not the host. Right?

@Jas00:  People who aren’t invited to your wedding definitely shouldn’t be asked to come to your shower. I think you should let you friend/relative(?) know that it would be wrong of you to invite a strange to an event where the whole point is to give you gifts.

Is it possible that there is a special reason that she asked? Possibly she is having company at that time and doesn’t want to leave the woman alone?

I still don’t think the hosts need to invite the woman as it would be odd having someone who is not known to the bride and  is not invited to the wedding.

Not sure if it’s too late to answer this, but had to put my “2 cents” in. I would have your hostess contact the invited guest and tell her “out of respect for the bride, the invite list is restricted to the names given by the bride when she made her list” There’s no reason they should be bringing anyone else if, in fact, like you said, they live in town.
