I have an appointment this evening with my bosses and I plan to ask for a raise, because I’ve passed 2 years of service and have not gotten a raise once even though I’ve consistently gotten excellent reviews. I work for a national bank and was told by a colleague that before 2008, they automatically gave raises, but post-2008, they won’t give you anything unless you ask.
How do I go about this? I’ve never done this before – I also generally hate talking about money but this is a necessary evil. My aunt, who works in senior management, advised me to ask for a $5K increase, which would work out to about 12.5% – is that a reasonable amount after 2 years?
I plan to talk about:
*what/how I contribute to their business (saving them lots of $, streamlining their prospecting process and meetings, etc.)
*the new responsibilities I’ve taken on
How else can I make my case for a comp increase rock-solid? Would appreciate any advice! 🙂
