I think a BFN is more depressing and uncertain than AF. When AF shows, you know what’s up. If you get a BFN, you’re disappointed, but still hopeful. I don’t test until AF is due/late for exactly these reasons. Good luck!

I am probably no help as I did start testing at 8dpo and got my bfp at 9dpo!

I was always so disappointed when AF would show up that I thought testing early would have just compounded my frustration, so I didn’t test until AF was late. I still had a few months where my normally predictable and reliable cycle went off course just to mess with me and I’d test only for AF to start a few hours later, but I saved time, money, and disappointment by waiting.

When I finally did get my BFP, I was a week late. I refused to test before that because I was convinced that AF was on the way. I “knew” this because the only “symptoms” that I’d had were my normal PMS ones. Best of luck to you!

I started out testing a lot. Then I started peeing a lot so my reasoning was my pee would not be strong enough to work anyways so I might as well wait to test. You should hold your pee for 4hrs for accurate results! Thats a long time in the middle of the day. The only time it would work for me was the mornings but Darling Husband and I had set days to test.

kaymee:  the best way to keep myself from testing, is not allowing myself to keep any tests in the house. The minute they are in the bathroom cabinet, they consume my thoughts lol

kaymee:  Well, I would test the day before I expected my period.  My reasoning being that it should be late enough to show a positive and I’d want to know if it was a chemical pregnancy.

I’m not much help because I tested a lot – as in multiple times a day – I started about 7dpo and got my bfp on 10dpo. I did not however use the expensive tests so that was my compromise. I bought fifty wandfo’s on Amazon for like $20 so I felt fine using them. Also it was our first cycle TTC so I think the excitement definitely got to me.

Since I had a mmc 2 years ago and this was our first cycle trying since then, I continued to test each day after the positive to watch the line get and stay dark because it was a comfort to me. But heads up if you do that be prepared that about 4 weeks in the line will begin to get light again because the level of hcg gets too high – didn’t know this – freaked out – googled like mad – little one is perfectly fine and now 23 weeks 🙂 anyway just a heads up.

I agree with a PP…. I’ll pee a lot so my urine wouldn’t be “strong enough” 🙂

I tested at 8ish DPO my first cycle ttc (last month) and got a BFN, which I was fine with because I knew it was early anyways. I then went out a couple days later and bought two more FRERs and my husband saw them in the kitchen and hid them on me! I’m glad he did because they’re expensive and I got my period two days later! Sooo…ask your SO to hide the tests? lol works for me!

I just gave in and went with it. I went to the dollar store so I didnt waste a bunch of money on tests. I loved testing everyday, and then finally seeing a faint line, then watching it get darker.

Testing is different for everybody. If you really feel as though you’re going to have a hard time refraining from POAS, then make sure you’re buying tests that aren’t going to cost you an arm and a leg. Many women on here swear by the Dollar Store tests and wondfos and they are very cost effective. I will say that testing too early can be discouraging and it almost becomes and obsession. There were some weeks where I POAS 10 times hoping that something would come up and was disappointed. I honestly would wait until you’re closer to missing your period. My other suggestion is do not symptom spot period sympotms and convince yourself they are pregnancy symptoms. They are very similar and if you put that kind of stress on yourself/body, you can prolong your period/cycles.

kaymee:  I tested much more when I was just starting to TTC, but now at 1.5 years in I’m like “eh…my period is dumb and has been late before so I’m not testing for another week.”  For me it was my husband being like “seriiously lady?! how much money have you wasted peeing on 47 tests this month?! cut it out!” hahahahaha

When we first started trying I got 25 tests on Amazon for $11, because it seemed like if I got full price tests I would stress myself out about wasting the money every time I got a negative. I used a few and it did get kinda frustrating to see the bfns so I ended up waiting about a week until one night I just had a feeling about it and when I tested that night it was bfp! That was about 15dpo, I probably could have gotten something a bit earlier but I hadn’t tested since 9dpo. Anyway I ended up having maybe half the tests left over and they expire this year so I gave them to a friend who is hoping to try soon 🙂

kaymee:  I would only allow myself to test with first morning urine, so I would quickly pee and then be like, whelp, can’t test today, too bad. I also told myself that the longer I waited the more likely it was to be positive. I know that it’s not more likely that I was pregnant, but I wanted to see a definitive line if I was actually pregnant. I was feel so grateful that I got my BFP our fourth month trying- and it was dark pink so no doubt about it! Best of luck!
