I bought a steam cleaner vacuum for, maybe $250 at Sam’s Club. It gets the smells out and really cleans it up.

Or, maybe it’s time to upgrade to laminate, haha. Our carpets got pretty nasty and finally we just got rid of them.

Baking soda sprinkled on carpets (and then vacuumed up) works much better than pet deodorizers (IMO).  Steam cleaning also works wonders.

I’m wondering if there is something going on under the carpet that is causing the odor. Is it wall-to-wall carpeting? Maybe there is a source of moisture (damp floor slab, leaky foundation) or a spill that soaked underneath and is molding? It just seems odd that cleaning doesn’t help. Maybe try putting a dehumidifier in the room and see if that helps/

@texasmeredith: I love the Arm and Hammer carpet powder. Smells so good and really picks up stuff from the carpet.

We rent a steam cleaner for a local tool rental place for around $30 every six months or so.  I LOVE clean carpets! After the wedding, we are definitely buying our own.

We rened a steam cleaner when we first moved in. I think $40 for 24 hours? It was easy to use and did a great job.
