Okay bees, my husband and I are totally stuck on this one so I’m turning to you for advice. We’re expecting a baby in May and are all set on our girl name, but are pretty much at a stalemate over the middle name for a boy. We both love the first name Landon, but DH wants to use his first name as the middle name, which I kind of feel like I should say okay to, but… I’ve always wanted to use my father’s name, I’m very close to him and honestly I would just like our child to have some part of their name come from my family, since obviously the last name comes from my husband’s.
I don’t really know how we can compromise on this. We don’t want two middle names, so clearly someone is going to get their way here while the other person doesn’t. Part of me feels like I should cave, but…I really don’t want to! Bleh, that sounds so selfish.
So if anyone has any suggestions for me I’d appreciate it, but in the meantime we decided to just ask some strangers and see which name combo they think sounds better. I’m not going to say which is my husband and which is my father’s name because I’m trying to not sway anyone’s opinion.

Eh, maybe you guys should just pick a name that is not in use for either family so the other doesn’t feel resentful.

I think the homeoteleuton of Landon Aaron is too much, so I’m voting for Jeffrey.

Yeah, I’m starting to consider that too…is it bad that part of me is hoping for a girl just so we don’t end up having to really make this decision? lol

And I’ll come back and tell you guys which is whose name once there are a decent amount of votes.

landon jeffrey has a much better flow off the tongue.

i actually agree with your reasoning, since the kid gets the father’s last name, you should be able to have more influence with the middle name. if i have a girl, i was actually just telling my DH that i want to give her my mom’s middle name. have you told your husband your reasoning? plus i am never a fan of giving the baby a middle name of one of the parents, i feel like it’s too much. the baby was already created by you, they don’t need your name too. that’s just my opinion.

Thanks, everyone! And I’ll go ahead and say it now, Jeffrey is my father’s name and I totally agree with @mrsSonthebeach:
about the flow of it. I actually just showed this post to DH, seeing that other people thought the same thing as me about the flow of Landon Aaron vs. Landon Jeffrey helped, and honestly I don’t think he realized how serious I am about and how much using my father’s name means to me until now. He’d kind of been avoiding having a serious conversation with me about it so we finally did that. And much to my relief he came around to my way of thinking pretty easily and said he is fine with using my father’s name. I’d rather use a non-family name than have him feeling resentful or me feeling guilty, so I’m pretty happy he is truly okay with it. And I know my dad will be really thrilled when we tell him.

I see you made a decision, so just chiming in to say I agree on all accounts. But if you have a second (and if this one is a boy) you can always do your husband’s name.
I like the idea of the middle name being a family name so I think you have a nice compromise.

Agreed, I see you’ve made a decision, however I was going to suggest if you really can’t use two middle names (why not?) then how about just calling him Landon AJ?
AJ as a middle name, combining your two wants.

I vote for whichever one is your father’s name.

I voted Jeffery and I was hoping that was your dad’s name (mine too!).
Our daughter’s middle is DHs grandma’s name and our next child will have my grandma’s.

All our middle names choices come from family. Our first boy has my middle name as his (it was originally a surname so it works) and our second will have DH’s middle name (which so happens to be my FIL’s middle name as well as my grandpa’s first, it’s kind of a classic) as his middle name.

I voted Jeffrey, because I really don’t like LandON and ArON together. It sounds strange.

glad you chose Jeffrey. IT is meaning ful for you and also sounds better.
