I could be totally wrong, but isn’t it the sperm that determines the gender of the baby?

I wonder if any of this stuff works! Probably not but it would be interesting to have that controle. Like for example if a female lizard is hot enough, she’ll have female offspring. If she’s cool, she’ll have male offspring. Weird!

@Mrs Canuck:  I believe so.

Whats wrong with having a girl? IMO being able to have conceive a baby in general is a miracle enough, it shouldn’t matter what gender it is. . .

all “systems” are myths. just relax and you’ll get what you’ll get.

@Mrs Canuck:  lol it’s the sperm. Women are XX, men XY, women release and egg (X) and speed determines what matches with it, and X or Y.

@lovelymamaN:  you should just worry about having a baby and being thankful for whatever you get.

The sperm that makes it through is what determines it… it’s basically a coin flip. If there were any systems that worked, it would be something the MAN would do, not the woman (to increase Y sperm percntage) but to my knowledge there is nothing, save artificial insemination selected for sex.

You cant pick and choose the gender of your baby. Just be blessed you are able to have one because many women cant! Good luck

What Bebealways says. People see it as a very simplistic thing: “The man determines it.” Yes, but…a particular sperm has to make it to the egg in the first place, and we don’t know conclusively if that’s something we can affect or not. Maybe the Shettles method is onto something and a woman’s body is more receptive to taking on the ol’ Y sperm at certain times. Maybe eating fewer calories leads to more selectivity in a woman’s egg, making a pregnancy with a girl more likely. I can’t say.

Most research studies into any alternative gender-selection methods have been very, very small. But, if you’re desperate anyway, Shettles can’t hurt. BBC New’s has covered a few minor studies – suggesting that women who have higher calorie diets before pregnancy are more likely to conceive boys (I think it was a miniscule difference – something like 2400 vs. under 2300 calories a day). I’ve also seen the suggestion that meat eaters are more likely to conceive boys.

Officially, the odds are slightly in your favor of conceiving a son anyhow  – 51 to 49 percent.

And, if you can swing it, of course, there’s always pre-implantation diagnosis for in vitro fertilization…in which case you get to pick exactly which embryos are implanted.

I’m not going to give you the backhanded “Just be happy you’re getting what you get!” The reality is that someone always has it worse and I can understand a parent’s desire to have a baby of a particular sex – and I also can’t fault a parent who wants to influence the outcome. But at the end of the day, you do have to live with the uncertainty and you have to be willing to love and take on this hypothetical child – but that’s pretty obvious anyway.

The easiest way is to have sex right during ovulation. Boy sperms live less time but are stronger and faster than Girl sperm. No citrics!!!! And at least 400 calories to your diet!

She asked for advice not judgement.

In the end it is just a coin toss thing 50-50 chance. So just enjoy it all the way. And you can always pray pray pray. My mom wanted a girl and she prayed really hard for a baby girl and here I am.

Yeeeaaaahhh, you really can’t do anything to impact it.  All research on these different “methods” show they have about a 50% success rate – so, exactly the chances that you have when you think about your partner’s sperm being about equal X and Y.  Just enjoy the process, and be open to either!
