@GelaMac:  Agreed!  I would tell him that you LOVE your original engagement ring (because you do) and you’re terrified of losing it or ruining it.  It doesn’t matter if it’s insured, it’s sentimental and that can’t be replaced.

I told my Fiance how paranoid I was (since I ordered 2 wedding bands, haha) and he understood and was fine with it.

Moissy isn’t super cheap for a stand in, haha. Around 1k for a ring.

I would consider white sapphire, maybe? It’s much more affordable 🙂

But if moissanite is in your budget, I definitely encourage it. It really is worth the money.

@Reign14:  just explain that you dont want to lose it on a trip and that you will pay for it yourself..dont tell him it will be a change up ring. I am actually thinkin about getting a moissy for a change up ring too…my hubby doesnt care

@Reign14:  I tired unsuccessfully for a stand in, even a $140 white sapphire from overstock.  If I ever dont want to wear my e-ring, I just wear my wedding band.  Buying it “myself” would not really work either since our finances are totally combined and there’s no “my” money to buy it with.

Can you just use another occasion to get the stand-in? Prior to our engagement, he purchased me a dainty/petite floral-themed diamond ring for a Valentine’s Day/anniversary gift. That’s now my stand-in for when I travel. For all intents and purposes, the way the tiny diamonds form a flower actually looks like a petite solitaire from afar and we both love it. That being said, I’m not wearing it for show as much as I hate the phantom ring feeling (the feeling that I’m forgetting something).

I’m also planning on an inexpensive, extra plain band. We do too many adventure activities…I’m not wearing a diamond during the warrior dash!

We are honeymooning in Turkey which isn’t the safest place to bring the real thing.  So we both agreed to make a stand in.  I had a local artist design a white gold band with a basic laurel leaf relief all around it.  It cost us about $750.  Choose an obscure and slightly dangerous place to honeymoon and then you may not have to convince your FH much more than that…hehe.  He will have to see the reason you need an extra one.  By the way, if you are looking for a basic white gold solitaire ring with a 1.07 carat cz in it, I am selling one in the classifieds section.  My FH took the diamond off of it for my own ring and put the cz that my Tacori came with back in it.  It is a size 6 and it has never been worn (couldn’t fit my fat finger in it if I tied).  Here is the picture.  Message me if interested.

@Reign14:  yeah, he didnt like the idea of it at all.  He says that’s why we have insurance on it, so I could wear the real thing all the time.  I’m ok with it now.  In reality, anywhere I’d be afraid to wear the real thing, I dont want any sort of flashy stand in either.  When I was traveling alone last month, I sometime felt weird jsut having my diamond band on, but it’s a half eternity, so I’d just turn the band around.
