I see that this is an old thread but DAMN does this ring true…glad to hear I am not alone! I have only been living with my fiance for a few months, and I knew what I was getting into before we moved in together as I’d spent loads of time at his apartment. But still. Woof…the pile of shoes and socks in the living room. The toiletries spilling over the sink in the bathroom. The clothes strewn about in whichever room he happened to be in when he took them off. The open cabinets. The little bits of paper and unread male piling up all over the place. The Amazon boxes that never get broken down or taken out to recycling. The reaking trash that doesn’t get taken out unless I do it.

I am not working full time at the moment, so I have been doing the bulk of the housework as a way of contributing, but holy shit, everyone has their limit. If anyone figures out the age old mystery of how to find that sweet spot between being a nag and being a pushover, please let me know!

In the meantime, I will continue loving my amazing fiance who is so good to me, and trying not to have a rage stroke when it comes to picking up after him. I just hope before too long we can afford a maid lol.

maggierose :  oh lord. this is my life.

ive tried buying him clothing baskets and putting them in the bathroom and also in his closet area, just in case one wasn’t enough, yet clothes still on the floor. I get so frustrated.

now instead of getting angry or nagging him, I just give him chores, like taking he garbage out or “honey you can please quickly pick up the stuff in the living room we have visitors soon”. It works a little. I’ve tried to show him how constant little acts of tidying prevent a big tidy up in the future.

Sorry I don’t really have any answers. Just wanted to share my frustration and vent lol xxx

Haha i’ve just posted something which is pretty much identical to this!! I really hope, since 2011, you’ve managed to resolve some of the issues. I’m going to have a good read through the comments and see if I can get some helpful tips for dealing with mine!
