I would say I’m too sick and have no energy. I wouldn’t dramaties it by saying you had food poisoning as they will probably ask more questions!

@MrsHowarts:  upper respiratory infection and your on antibiotics. Now you have a reason to not drink and to not run.

@MrsHowarts:  “I’m feeling sick”. Probably truthful if you have morning sickness.

That said, I think this is one of the few occasions where an out-and-out lie (like faking an injury) is ok. It’s a bit like telling lies about gift shopping – you’re lying for a reason which they will appreciate later.
