I find rubbing a gold ring on it helps (the person who told me this also said it needs to be a proper gold ring and not gold plated)

I work as a medical transcriptionist for an ophthalmologist (an eye MD). You could try cool and/or warm compresses. Depending on how large it is, sometimes it can be treated with antibiotics. Sometimes they need to be drained.

Also, I have heard that sometimes if you put a raw potato on it, that can help — but that is an old wives tale and not something that I have ever heard a doctor recommend– but I don’t see how it could hurt.

Good luck! Hope your Fiance feels better soon!

I’ve had two – one was very painful and the other was a moderate annoyance. I was told to take some ibuprofen and use warm compresses by the nurse (over the phone, didn’t even have to go in) since it wasn’t impeding vision/blinking or causing a severe reaction. I did the warm compress thing A LOT and they both cleared up in a matter of days.

First make sure it is a sty and not the start of Pink Eye. With that being said flushing his eye with normal saline will help with the sty. (and also gets rid of pink eye – for those who didn’t know)

I use Stye Ointment. It comes in a white box with stye printed in red and a huge eye.
