Honestly, I just wore my underwear and they supplied the slip and bra. That was all I needed. I would suggest going during the week if possible because the weekends are nuts! Go on the website and bookmark all of the styles you like, then print it out and bring it to the appt (they will forget to print it for you if you ask.) Other than that…that’s it!

They’ll give you a skirt and bra to wear.  But if you want to wear a body shaper yourself you can.

Go in with pictures or style numbers you want to try on.  Don’t be afraid to have a long list either, because everyone is different.  I’ve tried on nearly 30 gowns haha

Don’t judge the dress by the hanger.. try them all on.  Only way you will know what you truly like.

Good LUCK!

^ above tips are good

Also..bring some heels to try dresses on with..it helps see how the dresses will fall

Some other tips I have read are to wear light makeup (so it won’t stain the dresses), bring a hair tie in case you wanna simulate an updo or just get your hair out of the way, don’t wear a thong

ETA: Sorry this is so long!

The appointments are set up in 90 minute increments. If they know that you are looking to buy that day (don’t be afraid to tell the that!) then they will let you stay longer. I’d try schedule an appointment in the middle of the week in the middle of the day or call ahead to see when they are planning to be the least busy.

Given that your wedding is in five months you will be pressured into buying the day you visit. Some gowns have a 6 month lead time (mainly the Vera’s), so don’t be surprised when they say it could take x amount of weeks for something to come in. Some gowns with long lead times end up arriving weeks early and some don’t. Mine had a 12 week lead time and came in 11 weeks early.

They will supply a long line bra and crinoline/petticoat.

Give your real email address (it’s how they notify you that your items have arrived if you have to order), but make sure to check the box at the bottom of the page indicating you don’t want to be inundated with crap (phone, email and snail mail) and make sure the person taking your profile knows you did it!!!

Make a list of your top faves and include pictures and style numbers. The consultants know a lot about their stock, but if they see that your top faves are all A-Line or all Sheath, it helps them pick gowns quicker. This is a screenshot of the index I used. My top favorites are on the top row and my lesser favorites on the bottom. I was favoring an A-Line.

They are always introducing gowns (they just did another addition last week), so don’t be surprised if gowns marked “New” online aren’t in stores yet. Some stores lag in their inventory and some stores always receive the new gowns. It’s kind of a luck of the draw.

DB has sale-able samples. In order for their business model to work, brides have to buy them off the rack, everyone can’t do a special order. The gowns you buy on the floor are (typically!) the same price as the special order, but they will only special order if the gown in the store doesn’t come in your size and color. If you have to special order, make sure they measure you! There are links and links of horror stories on these boards about dresses coming in too small.

Have fun and enjoy your day! Shopping with your Mom is really special and you’ve obviously been anticipating it.

That gown is gorgeous. If you read the reviews, there is one from CT and one from NY, so there’s a good chance they have it. You could always inquire about it when you schedule your appointment.
