I think it’s perfectly fine to explain to them that, since they declined, you used the chance to invite someone else. It is common sense that you only RSVP once!

But in case that they do come back to you and say they can come, I think it will be okay to honestly tell them you’ve invited someone else and you’ll let them know if in the end there will be seats available for them. Good luck!

ya, i think it would be fine.  However, i would not sweat it too much unless it actually happens!  i certainly want to go back and forth on my rsvp for a wedding. i would be emabarrassed to go to a couple and say “i know i said i cant come, but now i want to”.  unless of course there is a really good reason – but if its because they cant bring their kids, i dont think they will be changing their mind.

I think that would be totally fine.

I don’t think it’s fine…Ypu can’t tell them no if you invited them.

@Auds424: my motto is: you snooze you lose. they said no.. other people have taken over priority… it’s not your fault.

I think it’s okay.  If someone declines your invitation then the invitation no longer stands unless you stated that the invite would be open if they changed their mind.  That’s the point of the RSVP-so you can plan accordingly.  If they’re friends then I’d say be honest and that you really wanted them to come and are sorry they couldn’t but unfortunately there is no longer space available.  Kind but honest.
