Hey ladies! I know a lot of you have done paper lanterns at your reception.
I want to get large white lanterns and string them in a zig-zag across the "barn" for some gorgeous lighting after dark. I don’t think I want to use lightbulbs in them, and I’ve seen some battery operated little things that go in them. How well do those work?
And how exactly do you string them up? Wire?? and What about cords hanging down? Any ideas or tips?

I know this is kind of old. However, we are planning on doing the same thing. Full details are here.
From what other brides have said, the battery-operated things make a nice glow, but they are not enough to light up a whole room on their own. For hanging them up, we are using monofilament line. We’ll attach it to the wall on one side, and to pillars in the middle of our venue on the other. We’ll then use more monofilament line to hold the lanterns, using more or less monofilament to place them at different heights. Below is a picture of our venue on a prior occasion, when Christmas lights rather than paper lanterns were used, but it may help to give you the idea.

I wrote a few posts about my experience with DIY lighting and hanging our paper lanterns… they might help!
