Hi, guys. My friend Demi is on a diet now, and she doesn’t eat anything after 5 pm.But she is too busy to do exercise, and she didn’t lose any weight at all for past two weeks, anyone have good suggestions can help her? Thank u in advance. 🙂

@Jessica2013: From what I understand, in order to lose a pound a week, you need to cut 500 calories from your BMR rate, which is the amount of calories you need to take in to maintain your current weight without exercise. The BMR can be calculated here:
So she’d take the number from this calculation and subtract 500.
That being said, if she is working out, she needs to take into account the energy that she is expending working out and eat a bit more, as your body’s metabolism can speed up and then require more nutrition to keep up with a higher activity level. If she doesn’t do that, she can enter starvation mode.

The main part of losing weight is diet not exercise. Her not eating after 5pm might mean she is not eating enough food.

To lose a pound per week you need to have a 3500 calorie deficit (for the week), which averages to 500 calories per day. You can absolutely lose weight without exercise…in fact, I think it’s easier, though I strongly encourage at least increasing your activity whenever you can just because it’s good for your health.
There are tons of calorie tracking programs that are free to use out there in internet land. I like myfitnesspal.com.

Working out is going to help the weight come off best. But if she eats a diet high in fruits and vegetables and incorporates whole grains, protein, and a small amount of healthy fats (avocadoes, nuts, etc), she will most likely lose some weight. She also needs to drink a lot of water throughout the day.

Thank you for all of your suggestion. I think is quite nice here coz I can always get useful advice from you guys. Maybe I should ask Demi here too, so she can get good ideas from you guys directly. 🙂
