Hey Congrats on starting your business!
I recently opened a coffee shop / bakery and the name was the hardest part, but make sure you get that nailed down before you spend any actual money designing a logo. I ended up just using good old graph paper and markers for about 2 months playing around the logo designs and when I got something I liked I sent it to a friend who used illustrator to make it ‘real’

Do either of you know how to use Adobe InDesign or Illustrator? If so, you can download a free 30 day trial.

I made mittens with kittens (fleece mittens with hand sewn kitten appliqué) to raise a bit of money for school, for my logo I actually scanned a mitten and played with it in Word of all things, made it black and white (not grayscale) and cropped it, ended up with a cool graphic. If you can think of a piece that really represents you and your company you can take it and play with it in photo editing and come up with a more abstract graphic representation. =D

@stephanie63087: Hehe give it a try. You might be able to find some tutorials online. It’s free, so doesn’t hurt trying. If you have Publisher you could also use that. I just prefer InDesign and Illustrator because you have more “freedom”.
Good luck! 🙂 That is exciting you are starting your own business. I wish I could!
