Ok, – this isn’t your typical 1-year anniversary post but I just know you guys will come through with good ideas.
First of all, we got married legally before we had our handfasting/wedding. Turned in the marriage licence at the courthouse. The one year anniversary of THAT happening is next week, although our wedding anniversary (which we’ve agree we will celebrate since it’s monogrammed on a bunch of stuff, haha) isn’t until May.
Normally, I’d say dinner, dancing, romance, etc, but we will be traveling. By car. We will literally be in Bumblef$$k somewhere. So, how could I celebrate our anniversary in a cool way when we’re on the run? I’m looking for some creative, home-grown kitchy ideas, especially since a joint bank account makes surprises difficult.
Secondly – what can I expect from our parents? Is it normal for parents to want to celebrate their kids’ anniversary? Do they send cards or something? As usual, all I’m trying to really figure out is whether my IL’s are supposed to care about the occasion (they won’t.)

It depends on the parents. In both of our cases, our parents may but the liklihood of the IL’s, nah 🙂
How long is your road trip? The only thing that comes to mind since you share an account is to pack a picnic basket with whatever drink you want, look at the map of where you are going and then surprise him by pulling over at a park or something.
ETA: I will not find it offensive if no one acknowledges our anniversary because it’s OUR anniversary, no one elses. As long as it’s me and Darling Husband, I will be perfectly content. My dad would call and remind me that my grandparents anni was coming up and I always found it weird to call them but that’s just me. So while it’s nice, it’s not mandatory.

Hmmm…could you pack a picnic or something? And then go to a park or something? You could pack a bottle of wine too 🙂 It would be cute.

I would see if there is anything on the route that you can do first has to be something…
Or I would pack wine like the other person said, a cute meal tha doesn’t need to be warmed like cheese crakers summer sausage, veggies, fruit something you can but in the cooler.
And wear a dress wink wink. I don’t know how conservative you are but we have tons of fun on the go you don’t have to do anything unsafe while he’s driving but it can be a good lead up tease and sexy.
Also bring a little cake for you too to share. We have a portable DVD player that we go on the road with maybe you can review your wedding video on the go.
