HannahGrace:  I would imagine that most choose a bout which would match your bouquet (or your bridesmaids bouquets if they’re a different color).  You could also ask your florist what he/she recommends.

My bouts matched my bouquet in color. My bouquet had pink and cream flowers with succulents. His bout had small pink, cream, and mini-succulents. Here’s a pic of my bouquet and a pic of the bouts.

HannahGrace:  I’m making my FIs as a ribbon rose out of the off cuts from getting my dress shortened so his will be ivory and I’ll get the others made in blue ribbon to match the bridesmaids. I know you’re having real flowers but thought I’d share my colours & why in case it helps ๐Ÿ™‚

I agree with PP.  Your florist will most likely use a flower/flowers or colors from your bouquet. Depending on your colors, you could have your bouquets be one and the bouttonniers be the other.

My florist used the 3 flowers in my bouquet in the wedding party’s flowers which I thought was very clever.  Boutonnieres for groom, groomsmen and dads will be white freesias, bridesmaids will be white tulips, and mom coursages will be white ranunculus.

Your florist should be of some help! I told mine of my ideas & she gave suggestions… I ended up choosing a boutaineer that was a bit different for the groomsmen- astilbe. One of my favorite touches of the wedding:) here is a photo:
