Will a girdle work to hide those bulging areas? Or does it look bad beyond the thoughts of a girdle?

@SoonToBeMrsMoose:  This sounds like when my mom tried on my jeans when I was in high school and got really excited that she could zip them (we’re not the same size, and they were stretch jeans). I have no advice, it just brought up that memory.

If you could still make a trip to the store together, perhaps you could pull the consultant aside and explain the situation.  Have her do the dirty work!  I would bet women in that job probably have a way with words and could get the point across in a very nice way.  It might be easier for your friend to hear from someone who helps women with dresses all day, and if she doesn’t take it well, then it’s not on you and your friendship!

Good luck.

Get her to give Spanx a try? Say that you’ll be wearing them under your wedding dress and they’re super comfy etc and she wont take offense. Probably.

Did she try it on with proper undergarments? I know it makes a huge difference trying on dresses with my spanx on vs not. HUGE difference. Also a proper fitting bra can make a world of difference as well for any back located lumpy bumpys.

Could alterations help? You may want to suggest that, since the dress is a bit snug, it may be better to order the next size; if she may need to have it altered, it’s always easier to take it in than let it out.

@NCPwedding:  Magic pants. Seriously, I don’t know where they put all the bad baggy areas but they go somewhere! SPANX AHOY!

Keep in mind too, that if she was trying on the sample in the store, it was probably stretched out. She needs to be measured by the bridal store consultant, and needs to order the size they recommend. For god’s sake, now is not the time to be vain. Would she rather have a number on the tag that no one will see, or would she rather look nice?

You can always take something in- you can only let a seam out so far.
