@klb2748: I feel your pain. I love my ring, and at this point I have gotten used to my “huge” ring and just say “thank you, he did a great job, I love it” when people comment on it, but there are still times when I feel the need to say something similar to your comments (he got a good deal, i bet your quality is better, etc) even though thats not really true.

Ok, so my best friend in the entire world got engaged to a wonderful man. Her ring is HUGE (IMO) and I think it’s at least 2.5-3 carats. She never actually said the exact size and I never asked and that’s just the center stone!….but the ladies she works with (who are MUCH older than her and are from not the best neighborhoods) LAUGHED at her and said that isn’t real! He fooled you!
When she told me this we just cracked up. Of course it’s a real ring it’s just some people will say the weirdest things!
ENJOY your ring b/c you are the one who has to wear it 🙂 Everything else is just blah blah blah blah blah blah.

Them: Your ring is too big!!!
Me: Your ass is too big!!!
That should nip that conversation in the bud real fast.

Hmm I would say her comment was a bit of a backhanded compliment. Oh we women are notorious for this kind of stuff aren’t we?
I am sorry if her comment made you feel a bit insecure with your Engagement Ring. I am sure whatever her reasons are for making the comment it has more to do with her and nothing to do with you or your ring. Even if she felt that way a filter is sometimes necessary in public.
When people offer comments positive or negative I do as the PPs have suggested and just tell them I love it and that he did an amazing job with designing what I wanted. Our joy for our rings will be contagious and they won’t have a choice but to smile and accept our happiness, regardless of their personal taste.
