Another vote for sunshine cleaning cloth. Things I tried, with no success:

  • magic eraser
  • ultasonic with jewelry cleaner
  • ultrasonic with vinegar
  • regular silver polishing cloth
  • pencil eraser
  • toothpaste
  • baking soda

I have an Amora on order and really wanted to solve the problem before it shows up. So glad I took a chance with the sunshine cloth! It took about half an hour on my cushion (smaller facets) and an hour on the OEC three stone. Totally worth the effort.

Apologies for the atrocious pictures – it’s really hard to photograph!

Hi all,

I know this is an old thread, but wanted to toss in my 2 cents. I bought a moissy on ebay for an insanely cheap price so wasn’t even sure if I was being had, until it was delivered and it had the infamous gemstone slick. I tried wiping at it but nothing happened. Then it occurred to me that it looked oily and what do I use on my face on occasion to remove oil? Rubbing alcohol. I poured a small amount of 91% rubbing alcohol into a little plastic cup, popped in the stone and walked away. Left it there for about 7 hours because I forgot it and what do ya know, I haven’t seen the slick since. It’s been about 4 months since. I now use the same method to clean my emerald cut diamond ring in RG (usually only leave it in there while I shower) and it works wonders. If anyone knows of a reason I should not do this please let me know.
