We started by reading some others on the internet and that the officiant shared with us. Then we got going.

I haven’t written mine yet, but we’re both English teachers who love the arts.

It came to me while drinking. People tend to open up and talk more while under the influence, so it’s a fun place to start. I was looking at photos of us through the years and it hit me: we’re together more than most and still want to be around each other more. I am planning to write based around that idea and share anecdotes from our journey together so far. Then I’ll explain why I still want to be around him.

He’ll write something that’ll make me cry and I’ll have to reread them later, because I cried during the proposal and don’t remember what he said. He wrote me a poem for my birthday to show how much he loves me, because he didn’t have a copy of the beautiful proposal. The poem is amazing.

Remember: Write drunk, edit sober.

I like vows to be traditional and dignified . I can hardly bear  it when the couple starts on the details of their love  journey etc . Not  so bad in speeches, but not in the wedding vows  to my mind .

I actually wrote my vows after our second date! I actually referenced a really neat story my grandpa always told me.  He said the moment he saw my grandma, he knew he was going to marry her, and that he and his friend fought over her! My romantic, head-in-the-clouds part of my always held into the love at first sight thing because of it! To experience it for myself was so surreal that I just sat down that night and let my words flow! I just hope I can keep it together when I read them on our wedding day!

I spent  a few weeks brainstorming promises I wanted to make to Darling Husband. When something came to me, l wrote in a note on my phone. Then I sat down and decided which ones I was going keep, then put them in order – I had a few funny ones, a few serious ones – and cleaned it up. I made six promises, with nothing extraneous, like stories.

I struggled when writing mine because there were so many things that I wanted to say to him yet I wanted to keep them short and sweet. There’s nothing worse than attending a wedding where the vows go on and on and on. Also it’s hard for me to express intimate feelings infront of so many people. We decided that we would write each other letters and exchange them before the ceremony, this way we could express feelings to each other privately.

As far as writing our vows I kind of made a graphic organizer so the beginning was a little intro of what our love is and what it means to me. The middle was all about my fiancé and what he means to me and the end was the promises I made to him. My vows came out perfectly and I wouldn’t change anything about them.
