Okay so my dress is satin and the weddings in 16 days. Can I steam my dress even though the skirt is satin or do I iron it with a ironing press towel under the iron? I don’t want to ruin the dress or get water spots from the steamer. But I’ve never used on before either can any of y’all help me in this area?

I bought a steamer and I love it. I steam everything now. If you can, I would buy a decent one and practice with it. Mine doesn’t spit or leave water marks and I have steamed silk, satin and cotton, just about everything. It is something that you will find yourself using long after the wedding is over.

Do NOT iron it! Bridal gowns are usually too delicate for ironing. You can steam it, but I would get it done professionally if you can, but def don’t do it for the first time on your wedding dress. There are some good threads with tips on steaming if you search the forum.

Ok thanks for the advice. 🙂

I am planning on getting it pressed or steamed at the dry cleaners. I think they have special equipment to handle the delicate fabric. I certainly wouldn’t want to try it myself! I SUCK at ironing!

If your dress is satin I wouldn’t steam it yourself either!!!
Take it to a professional taylor/cleaner or talk to your salon about how to prep your dress by yourself. Dpending on the type of satin it can be very sensitive and even streak if seamed improperly. Also, if your dress is rouched you have to be careful you don’t steam out the creases. It may not happen, but I had a friend who left her dress to the resort staff -they steam the dress as part of the bridal package. They ruined it because the creases fell out and her mom had to sew them back with hours before the wedding.
