We told our parents in person (we live about a 10 hr car ride away from both his parents and mine) and swore them to secrecy until we were ready to announce to everyone else. They were good for it and actually kept it to themselves for almost 2 months which was the next time we were in the area to visit, but I don’t know your family dynamic. Some people are just really terrible at keeping secrets haha!

aquarius_91:  I live out of state from my sister. She sent me an “Aunt” bracelet, in the box under the bracelet was the ultrasound pic. Tears of joy and a very excited phone call to my sister! =)

It’s similar to this but only have the “Aunt”:

our close family all lives within 30 minutes of us but we told different people at different times and no one spilled the beans to the other.

we went through fertility treatment and we told my mom 2 days after our BFP.  Darling Husband told his mom at 7 weeks after the first ultrasound and she didn’t tell her sister or father. (DH’s aunt and grandfather)

we told DH’s dad’s side of the family soon after that first ultrasound at 7 weeks.  the nieces were sworn to secrecy and were good enough not to tell their grandfather (remarried) yet and other family members they see.

at 9 weeks we told DH’s mom’s side of the family when we had them over for dinner.  DH’s mom kept her word, they were suprised.

at 10 weeks i started telling my out of town family on the phone and we gave word to start spreading to DH’s out of town family. although we did see one group of cousins around 8 weeks and told them when we stayed with them for a weekend.  but they also kept secret to other cousins.

aquarius_91:  My girlfriend movied to VA from NY away from both of their families. They sent them a group text with a picture of him and her on each side of the oven with a loaf of bread in it. They sent the picture with the caption, “We’ve got a bun in the oven!” They all loved it! They waited a while to break the news to the world because they wanted to see their parents in person first, but they couldn’t wait to tell immediate family when they first found out so they sent the text. It was SUPER cute!

We live 19 hours away from my parents and 2.5 hours away from my inlaws. I’m not really into cutesy announcements so I just told my mom over the phone pretty early (5 weeks) and Darling Husband told his parents by phone at 7 weeks. We stressed not to tell anyone and they all kept it quiet until we felt comfortable announcing.

I waited to see my parents in person. With my first it was 12 weeks, this one will be 15.5 weeks.

After a few MC’s, CP’s, and 12 months of trying I wanted to wait until we were closer to the end of the first trimester.  I found an opportunity to get my Mom in town when I was around 11 weeks.  She lives about 2.5 hours away.  I was able to tell her in person by giving her some fabric, a frame and a note from the baby.  We sent a gift telling my Dad home with her.

DH’s Mom lives about 3 hours away, and we were planning to tell her by meeting her halfway for lunch.  But she didn’t have the time to meet and was having a rough time, so Darling Husband ended up telling her on the phone.  After that, he just let the rest of his family know via phone.  They all live 3 to 16 hours away.

Everyone was pretty cool about keeping there traps shut until we were ready, but I didn’t make them wait too long either.

My parents are in MN and I’m in Texas, and DHs mom is five hours away. He just called her, but we Skyped my parents to “show them our pumpkins” on Halloween and told them we carved one for every member of the family. We gave them a beat to figure it out (my mom did right away, she gasped) and then we slid the ultrasound picture into the frame 😛 first thing my dad asked was if we got a new pet, then he saw the ultrasound. he finally got it and wacked my mom on the arm and said “YOUVE BEEN PRAYING HAVENT YOU!?” Lol it was awesome
