I think what you just said is perfect.  ALong with a photo of a cell with an X through it.

I do not think that is too direct and in fact, anyone who considers even leaving a phone on vibrate during the ceremony, needs that kind of “directness” anyways

I would actually be pretty direct and specific with that one. Some people are completely oblivious and if you went with the nice, round-a-bout wording, some guests may think they can bend the rules.

I’d make a sign that straight up said, “Please turn off all mobiles prior to the ceremony.” People should automatically know that no matter how important they think their phone call may be, it is not as important as a wedding ceremony!

I usually see someone make announcement before a wedding. They remind people where and when the reception is and any other details. then remind people to turn off their cell phones. I think being told alloud is more effective than a sign, because everyone then checks their ringer volumes at the same time.

@Oneeleven: Hahaha talk about straight forward!!

To be on the safe side I will have a direct sign and then will have someone announce it as well. I think it is so rude when peoples cell phones go off in the service and the most annoying thing is when they dont answer it and just let it ring

You could collect all cell phones in a basket- like saloons used to do with guns in the old west.

I was thinking about a sign saying “Dear Guests- The Bride reserves the right to toss your cell phone in the bayou if it goes off in the middle of the ceremony. Sincerely, the bride.”  Cause ours will be right on the water.  =)

Another thought I had- depending on how much humor your group has and how creative they are—- have a couple do a “skit” talking on cell phone- being obnoxious- ( kinda like what they show at the movies).  It could be funny- break the tension, entertain your guests, and then after the music starts- they will be properly wedding moody….

It will be in our program, and there will be an annoucement before the processional.

I would probably have someone announce before the processional that anyone caught with a ringing phone, or typing away on a phone, has to do a 10 second solo, of the chicken dance…with a chicken head on at the reception 🙂

I think just a funny sign.. like “please silence your cell phones, we dont want our beautiful bride to turn into a bridezilla” lol That way people get it but its still funny or just make an annoucement before the ceremony starts.
