We just saw the yard where our son’s wedding is going to be. The grass needs a lot of work. It’s soft and there are many gopher holes…sigh
We are going to do the best we can to make it flat and firm. 🙂 But I would like to mention something on the reception card. They do not have a website.
Any suggestions? Thanks

I put a little bit on our wedding website about what to pack (we had quite a few out of town guests) and put a note that our wedding will be outdoors on grass so wear comfortable shoes. 🙂

Walking the yard will be quite quest.
Please allow us to suggest,
Comfy, stable shoes will be best!
Okay. cheesy. But, well, I am!

I’m with kitcat – that’s very cute.
You may want to buy some cheap straw or rubber flip flop sandals from a discount store (usually about $2 apiece) in a variety of sizes for women who may need to change into them as they refuse to wear anything else but heels. Have them handy and any unused ones could be returned to the store. I’d get a dozen or so.

Hmmm…I’ve never seen something like that printed on the invite. Most of the time, I’ve gotten notice about things like that through word of mouth (the reception hall is chily, the church yard is cobblestone, etc. etc.)
Have you talked to the bride about printing it on the reception card?

Word of mouth. Usually when a wedding’s outside, women expect they shouldn’t wear heels. But if you’re worried about it, just spread it around.

I am worried about someone twisting their ankle and would at least be “covered” by mentioning it on the invite, ya know?
Maybe just in small writing at the bottom
…..flat shoes suggested…..

You should just be upfront with your guests. I wouldn’t put it on the reception card, but maybe print out some cute business-card sized slips mentioning that you would reccomend wearing shoes that will not sink into the ground. However, I do enjoy the flip flop trend going on right now. Alot of brides are choosing to have decorated baskets with assorted sizes of flipflops. If you try dollartree.com, you can order pairs for about a dollar a piece, such as these cute ones: http://www.dollartree.com/Summer-Fun/Beach-Poolside-Fun/Ladies-Straw-Flip-Flops/411c475c475p318164/index.pro?method=search

>>> You should just be upfront with your guests.<<<
This is my son’s wedding. We can spread the word on our side of the family, but I don’t know how well her side may be informed.
I just don’t want a mishap that day. 🙂
We still have about 6 weeks before the invites go out, so I will see how well the grass looks then.

I would be upfront with guest as well. Sometimes word of mouth doesnt spread as far as you anticipated!
I would just attach a little note in the invites along the lines of “please be aware the wedding is outdoors so comfortable shoes are suggested! 🙂
