Lol all hail the algorithm
Fiance and I met on OKCupid. When I was 21 and had been active on and off for 3 years, I found his profile, and it was by far one of the most intriguing ones I’d seen! His pictures weren’t very clear but of course I messaged him, I have about 30,000 words worth of talking from before we met, and about 2 weeks in we had our first date, which accidentally lasted 8 hours, so clearly there was something there, and the rest is history!
I think maybe one time I fibbed and said we met at a bar, which was where our first date began (then we walked to a 24 hour cafe with great sandwiches down the street). I’m not sure why, when generally I’m the first person to tell people online dating is awesome and silly to be ashamed of.

We met totally randomly at a party!! I wasn’t single at the time, but I was 3 months later and we met up for drinks 🙂 Got engaged at that same cocktail bar one year later to the day!

Fiance and I met in highschool my sophmore year, and i couldn’t stand him lol. He was always trying to talk to me and i was always trying to avoid him. One day we rode the bus home and sat next to each other and we just started talking. I realized then that he had a good heart and later in the year i gave him my number. I was in a relationship at the time with someone else (my ex was a complete jerk) I wanted a guys point of view on my relationship at the time. We ended up talking for hours and continued to talk on the phone for months afterwards. I started falling for him hard and the same with him.
My heart broke when he left for collage and i thought i would never see him again. A year had passed and i discoved he had moved back. We started talking again and hanging out alot. We decided that we wanted to be with each other, so we made things offical and here we are today with a beautiful son and happily engaged!

These stories are all really great. It’s weird how many high school sweethearts there are! People are always saying that you never marry someone you met as a teenager, and really, this just proves it wrong.

We also started talking on OK Cupid. We had messaged online for about 2 months before meeting, and I was happy with getting to know him a bit before meeting him. I was a bit of a serial dater at the time, and would meet people and never go on second dates because I never felt a connection. I met him for a drink and we started talking…when we were ready to go we were both shocked that we had been there for about 5 hours, just talking. I just really remember hoping that he would want a second date because I felt so strongly about our connection. Luckily he asked me, and we’ve been seeing each other since. That date was about 2 years ago and I’ve never been happier! The funny part is that he actually is on the shy side with a lot of people when he first meets them, which makes me appreciate even more how open and chatty he was with me.

My SO and I actually met through Craigslist. Yes, I know that is super dangerous! LOL. But, the first time we met in person I did tell a friend exactly where I was going and all of the details, just in case. Although as it turned out, we had a mutual friend from my university. We don’t usually tell people that we met through Craigslist since most people have a negative reaction to CL and its dangers. Sometimes we day we met online, and leave it at that. Most people think a dating site is ok, but not Craigslist. Sometimes we tell people we met though our mutual friend and leave out the online part all together! I wouldn’t change the way my SO and I met though. After all, he turned out to be my best friend and love of my life.

@CanadaMoose: I think ours is cute. We met when both of us studied abroad at the same facilities in Tokyo. We lived down the hall from each other.

We were using the same attorney who had an office in a skyrise with an underground garage. I was leaving as he was coming in. It was 6pm or so. He told our atty that he would walk me to my car as the garage was deserted. He walked me down and we were talking the whole time. He asked me for my phone number and asked if I would like to get togther and have dinner sometime. I gave it to him but didn’t really expect to hear from him–guys that good looking don’t need to troll for dates in a parking garage…
He called the next morning and we went out to dinner that night. We’ve been pretty much inseparable since then. Six months in he told me that he had been engaged the nite we met, but went home and broke up with her because he knew he could never marry her. I’m glad he waited to till then as I think if I had known that really early on I would have been on my guard thinking he was a weirdo or something…

We had gone to highschool together and lived in the same neighborhood but he was 3 grades ahead of me so he never knew who I was. Fast forward quite a few years later, after being friends on Facebook for several years, something he posted one day caught my eye. We had never talked to each other but I sent him a message out of the blue basically saying…Hey, I have a weird question…do you want to hang out sometime. It turns out that something I had posted previous to that (about football) had caught his eye and he had suddenly become interested in me. Funny how things work out.

we met on OK Cupid. I had only been on for a few weeks and wasnt really finding anyone I was interested in and was thinking about deleting my accout when he sent me a message. I thought he was cute and we had a lot in common. It was really nice because most of the people would ask for my number right out of the gate and SO waited for almost a month before asking. We finally agreed to meet and had so much fun we went out again the next night.

We met at our freshman orientation! It was a couple of months before school actually started and we were randomly placed in the same small group. We got along really well, and on the last night of orientation, he tried to kiss me. I was still with my high school boyfriend, though, so I turned him down.
A couple of months later, we ended up living RIGHT next door to each other in our dorm. We became really, really good friends over the next few months, then started hooking up, then eventually decided to make it a real relationship.
That was almost 6 years ago…and I don’t think either of us thought we’d end up engaged!

My husband and my brother were buddies in my brother’s first year of school. His dad met our mum and they were friends all through my brother’s time at primary school. Eventually they lost contact but everytime my brother and I bumped into my husband down the street or at the park we’d say hi.
My best friend at the time started dating my husband’s best friend. We got together about three months after they did. We were the first from the group to get married 🙂

I met my Fiance in an online game, World of Warcraft! He was the leader of a guild (a large group of people playing together) which I joined. The first 6 months in that guild we didn’t really speak to each other directly, but everyone used to be on voice chat together and the first thing I fell for was his voice and accent. Eventually we started talking, he came to visit me in Sweden and in March it’s been 8 years since! 🙂
