Ballgown and formal tux on the bride and groom, on a beach?
What if it wasn’t on a beach but outdoors, daytime, on a paved patio near a beach?
What if the groom’s tux is gray?
Give me your honest opinions please. And as a guest, would you be comfortable in semi-formal wear for this wedding?
We’re trying to figure out what to do with both our love of formalwear, and our love of the beach!

You could always decorate an indoor, formal venue with beachy stuff

A grey tux looks sharp!
I think if you want to do semi-formal beach then go nuts! If I was invited to a semi-formal beach wedding my only concern would be shoes… semi-formal shoes don’t always do so well with sand… although it sounds like maybe you’re not thinking in the actual sand.
One of the best parts about being a guest at a wedding is dressing up and beach areas are beautiful venues for a wedding.

My cousin got married on the beach and she wore a giant, formal beaded wedding gown. We made fun of her for it, in a lighthearted way, but she loved it and it worked. She had all the guys in white tuxes that were hemmed just below the knee. We all thought it would look tacky and awful, but it actually looked pretty great.
