When I first started looking for wedding dresses, I was convinced I wanted a lace gown. After trying a bunch on (and my sister snapping a few iPhone shots), I am a little saddened because the detail of the dress is lost and you’re just left with the gown’s shape with a few sparkles from the embroidery.
Of course, I know a professional photographer’s pictures will be MUCH better than an iPhone, but I’m curious about your opinions. Do you feel lace can be appreciated in bridal photos?

I’m going through the same thing right now…

I had a lace dress. Honestly, I agree that it doesn’t photograph as nice as it looks in person. You do end up losing alot of the detail in photos. However, I still love the way it photographed and everyone got to see all the amazing detail in person. I don’t regret my decision at all to wear lace even after seeing my photos.
Feel free to browse my photos if you want to see how it photographed:

@PuntaCanaBride: Can I tell you… you are GORGEOUS. I can tell you and your hubby are very happy together. Your dress was beautiful as well. I can see what you mean about how some of the detail doesn’t always show up, but it definitely shows in your close-ups.
Hmm… I’ll just have to think more about this.

Depending on how far away the shots are, you may or may not be able to see the detail. But I think even from far away the fabric shows some depth to it, so it looks more “alive” than plain flat fabric. It also depends on the lighting.
In this close up you can see the lace detailing pretty well:
A bit further away:
And further away:

Some of the detail is definitely lost in photos as they get further away, but it is always visible in real life, which is far more important!
