I was named after a great-grandma.

Super popular name and I hated being one of 4 in my class growing up, but it’s timeless and classic. It’s actually the ONLY name to still be in the top 5 since 1801…at least in my province, anyway.

I was named after the Joni Mitchell song, “Amelia.”

I love my name, but it’s getting so popular now — there are SO many little Amelias running around.  I used to be the only one I knew!

@KatyElle I actually DID end up getting named AFTER a car!

Mom wanted to name me Denise after her best friend, and they did…

until my dad fought for the name Shelby and they went and changed my name legally when I was a week old. ๐Ÿ™‚ He just purchased a ’67 Shelby the June before I was born and was a little obsessed with it. I get the nickname “Mustang” frequently. I love my name. ๐Ÿ™‚

These are always so interesting.

I was named after a bird and my aunt who died young.  At some point in early spring, a couple of years before I was born, my parents saw a robin in someone’s driveway and decided they’d use that name if they ever had a girl (not sure if they would have used it for a boy).  My middle name was my Dad’s sister’s name – she died of leukemia when she was 2 so they gave me her name in her honor.

I was named Mallory after my mom. Her first name is Lori, and her maiden name began with ‘mal’…smoosh the twon together and you get Mallory ๐Ÿ™‚ I was almost a Brittany or Melody.

Shortly after my sister was born, my dad read a sci-fi book with a character with my name.  He asked my mom if they could name their next girl that name…my mom agreed.  That said, they were fully convinced I was a boy while my mom was pregnant with me…my name would have either been Ira or the same as FI’s.

I was, no joke, named after a female character from Miami Vice. Haha. My father didn’t like it so he added a hyphen followed by his mothers name on my birth certificate. I only go by the “Miami Vice” name most of the time, though.

My mom was convinced I was going to be a boy. 2 weeks before her due date it occured to her I could be a girl and they should come up with a name. Fleetwood mac came on teh radio and she said they should name me Stephanie and call me Stevie for shot after Stevie Nicks. My name is Stephanie, but I definately don’t go by Stevie. Apparently I don’t look like a Stevie.

My mom got to name my older sister, so my dad got to name me. I came out with dark hair and bright blue eyes (and I think an automatic daddy’s little girl) and he named me Veronica after the comic book character. I’m not kidding. We do have things in common like a stubborn personality, a fierce loyalty to daddy, and a serious competitive edge. But thankfully I’m not a huge b!tch (most of the time, just keep me well fed, LOL). I’m also a little sad I don’t have her wardrobe or bank account ๐Ÿ˜‰ I’ve gotten used to all the “Hey where’s Archie?” and “How’s Betty?” jokes because people think they’re very clever and original. sigh. Despite the somewhat memorable moniker, people constantly call me Victoria or sometimes Vanessa which drives me bonkers. Today I saw my brother-in-law’s uncle who’s known me for over 10 years and he says “Hey Victoria! Great to see you!” UUUUUUUUGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH.

Both mine and my sister’s middle names start with L (which my mom picked) in honour of my dad who’s first name starts with L. I thought that was pretty cute.

My mom wanted to name me Vanessa Christina…the first one because she always liked and the middle one because that is my grandma’s name. However, my grandma told my mom “If you are going to name the baby after me, it has to be the first name, otherwise dont even use it” lol. So I ended up as Christina Vanessa ๐Ÿ™‚

I was named after one of my mom’s favorite kids she used to babysit – nope, not Amelia Bedelia or Amelia Earhart or anything. Lol. She just realllllly likes classic sounding names (as do I) and was set on it. My siblings all have classic-ish names as well.

My mom had a name picked out for one baby.  Well, surprise, surprise!  She had twins.  She had NO idea (went into labor the night before her only ultrasound).  So, she just decided on two names that went together, but weren’t matchy.  My sister’s middle name is similar to my dad’s name and my middle name is a family name.

Doctors said I was a boy and out popped a girl. Brian was changed to the feminine form- IE throw an “a” on the end of it
