Have the ushers remind people when they seat them.

Good question!

It happened during our wedding.  We took down their names, and then had them thrown out of the venue after the ceremony was over.

Haha, I wish!!

Maybe have the officiant make an announcement before you begin?

mrbee — that was too funny!

I agree that ushers could politely remind them as they are seating guests.

I party fouled this one pretty bad once… I was at a church ceremony and my phone started ringing "My Humps" by Fergie. Um… yikes.

Our wedding was outdoors, and I don’t think I heard any phones ring, although if they did I think it was so windy no one could really hear!

Haha you could play that sprint commercial they play before movies start… "don’t spoil the wedding by adding your own soundtrack!"

personally i would tell each and every guest that if a phone rings the bride will storm the aisle and smack the offender numerous times over the head with her flowers. and god help the person that actually answers their phone – that person should be taken out and shot immediately

LOL @penguin!  I would have busted up laughing if I heard that at church!

I think having the officiant politely remind the audience is a good idea.

In college I had a professor who had a rule; if someone’s phone rang in class, the professor would answer that phone and let the caller know that their friend was in class.  Well one time, the professor’s phone rang while he was teaching.  Of course there was no way we were going to let him get away with this.  A girl in the front row answered his phone and told his wife that he was teaching and would have to call her back.

@ Meowkers, I have a similar thing– one of my law school professors made you get up and sing your college’s alma mater if your cell went off in class… and whaddya know, on the last day, his cell rang, and he ended class early to avoid the embarrassment. Ha!
