Our family was so excited about the proposal (they were all in on, and include in, the proposal) and it was so much fun a few actually posted it on social media before we went through the whole “personal phone calls” rule. Oops. I didn’t care to be honest. The whole thing was so cool and unique and he and my sister worked so hard on it I can see why some had posted it immediately.

Our immediate families were all in on it and present. So they obviously knew. Beyond that… I didn’t mind that everyone else found out via Facebook. Obviously those that weren’t on there or not very active (older relatives) got phone calls soon after.

Using this picture I found on Pinterest for inspiration. Only the leaf will be from a red bud tree (heart shaped) and I’m writing our wedding date in cursive.

jubiebee:  The night he proposed, we contacted our families and best friends via WhatsApp because we were away in Jamaica. He had asked their blessing so they were practically taking bets on what day he’d propose! lol The next day, I updated my cover photo with a picture of us and announced that way 🙂

I think Fiance had had the FB announcement planned out as long as the proposal.

He posted a picture of our hands (showing my ring) and a witty comment about me completing my 11 year probation.

We rang our parents/grandparents to tell them before I let him put anything on FB.

Not engaged yet, but a facebook friend of mine put up two different pictures of her and her fiancé with only 5 things changed, one being a ring on her finger, and asked everyone to find the 5 changes between the pictures!

We waited a week told our family and everyone we really thoguht should know in person and I face timed my best friend since she lives in a different state. We then just changed out relationship status to engaged My fiance posted “Hey guys we did a thing” (haha boys) and put some pictures of the proposal up on there and instagram.

As someone in their mid-twenties, dozens of my friends get engaged a week, and I was sick of seeing “I SAID YES!” superimposed on a girl and guy awkwardly selfie-ing with her holding up her hand.

He had hired a photographer, so I just used one from the side with him on one knee, and my completely shocked face, as I stared down at him. I figured “less is more” and left it caption-free. I found it hilarious how many people didn’t realize that he was proposing, and commented, “what is this?”  😉

We won’t be announcing ours. They’d just see a wedding photo.

lolakitten:  I find it funny! Thought I’m sure others will be offended!

I never posted. In fact it was two years later before most people found out at work.

  • Wedding: January 2017

We told our family and very close friends personally, then posted this on Facebook:

Having surpassed such relationship hurdles as:
*Assembling IKEA furniture
*Navigating grief after the loss of a parent, two grandparents, a friend, a co-worker, and a marriage
*Moving in together (and (partner) living with kids for the first time since he was a kid!)
*Keeping a houseplant alive and thriving for over a year
*Laundry and dishes that replicate like tribbles
*Traveling on planes, trains, automobiles, and a cruise ship and still wanting to spend time together once we got home
*and general lack of sleep because we were binge watching Parks and Rec or helping the other recover from surgery or a toddler was wedged between us or we just couldn’t stop talking about everything;

(Partner) and I have decided to level up and take on marriage. The big day is January 1 – a fresh new year, a fresh new step for us.

We have an IKEA manual, Allen wrench, and a towel, so I’m pretty sure we’re ready for whatever comes next!

Waited a couple hours and kept the news just to ourselves, then called the VIPs, then a day later we just did a simple life event/relationship status without a caption. We did include a picture of us right after the proposal but it’s from a distance and the ring is barely visible. (Love seeing rings on weddingbee… but not a fan of a close-up ring shot used to announce an engagement on fb). We also both changed our profile pictures to that same picture. Before the engagement you couldn’t have guessed we were even dating from stalking us on facebook, so big steps!

My SO and I waited a a day (family is spread across various time zones) to make sure that everyone was personally informed and then I posted the following on FB:

CRAP! I don’t have anything old, new, borrowed or blue. What’s a future bride to do?
