I think it depends on your guests and the type of wedding you’re having. If it’s a black tie affair I would say nay to the school bus, but if it’s more casual event then go for it! I’m planning on getting a school bus to shuttle guests to the cermony/reception site, but ours is a casual event and I know the guests using it will love it.

Honestly, I’ve never had this option as a guest at a wedding. I’ve always made my own way back from the hotel to reception to hotel and it didn’t bother me one bit.

But I wouldn’t mind a school bus at all! Free transport is free transport!

Personally, I’d prefer to drive myself.  I have medical occurences where I need to leave immediately.

I attended a wedding two years ago where we took a school bus (actually, the rehearsal dinner was on the 4th of July – we took the bus from the site of the dinner, which was a BBQ, to the fireworks, and back). I LOVED it and thought it was a fun, unique touch. Plus it was a great way for all the guests to be together in sort of a nostalgic atmosphere, except with drinks! 🙂 I was raving to the bride about how great this was (went to 10 weddings that summer and this was a highlight) and she explained for 55 guests, it was by far the cheapest option, not just the most fun. I’m all for it.

Keeping in mind that the Rehearsal Dinner was a BBQ at their house so it was in tune with the theme. The wedding was a bit fancier and didn’t required transport, but I probably would have loved it either way. 🙂

I don’t think 20 minutes is bad…but others, I know, may disagree.

Even if I was in my finest formal dress and my guy was in a tux, we’d still be willing (happy even) to jump on a big yellow school bus.  I’ll ride on anything that’s not stinky.  Go for it.

I think a school bus is fine no matter what!! People will not be judging you on your transportation – they will just be happy and grateful that you provided FREE and SAFE transportation options for them!! It wouldnt be a requirement for people to ride the school bus so I dont see the big deal. The younger folks will LOVE it I’m sure!!

@roxy821: we were in the exact same boat as you’re in.  Our wedding is also formal (though not black tie) and you know what…With an open bar and it being Halloween we want to offer our guests safe transportation…BIG YELLOW SCHOOL BUT IT IS, haahaahaa….They can ride with pride or yellow cab it…

Just realized its Yellow vs Yellow = bus vs. cab…..

I think the school bus idea is super cool! Go for it.

I would go with the bus if you think your guests will be okay with it! I know I personally would just be happy to have a ride to the hotel so I don’t have to worry about it.

I think the bus is fine, however I also think if your guests are old enough to drink then they are also old enough to plan ahead for a Dirty Delete.  It is really nice of you to want to provide them with transportaion so they don’t have to worry about it, but if you don’t have the funds then don’t stress about providing it.  Stop serving drinks the last half hour so people have time to sober up.
