MrsMeowton:  From what I’ve seen, it’s spring loaded. Twisting it releases the mechanism shooting the contents out the top. You’d have to take off the paper covering the top to take everything out first. Here’s a video someone made of one.

HonoraryNerd:  I don’t know if I necessarily mind them. Maybe if you put a small warning tag on the outside? This reminds me of a birthday card I got a few years back from my aunt: It had a wind up butterfly in it, so when I opened the envelope, the butterfly and glitter/confetti came shooting out. I actually thought it was very cute–that’s once I stopped screaming, mind you. 

Your wedding, your rules as far as I’m concerned. People will get over the confetti aspect of it. I will say, however, I would be expecting you to have a very lively, fun wedding. If I got this Save the Date and then attended a very formal wedding, I’d be kind of confused. I would expect some type of carnival or something, especially if this is the lead in to your wedding. I also agree with another poster: Can you make the confetti in colors that better reflect your wedding?
