i would’ve pronounced it like the herb but i’m probably subconsciously influenced by the fact that i know a girl called parsley.

I happen to know that when it’s used as a name, it’s pronounces “ba-” (as in bad) “-sil” but previously I would have prounced in bay-sil.

Because I am familiar with the herb basil, and it spells the same way, I would pronounce it bay-sil. Unless the person introduces himself and lets me hear the name first, I would try my best to say how he pronounces it. I suppose different regions of the world might pronounce it differently. Also, even though there are people with this name that use the short “a” sound, I would want to be safe and not assume that’s how I was supposed to pronounce it.

I would pronounc it like the herb at first until I heard it. I wouldn’t worry about how people will pronounce it. If you love it use it!! Coming from a S-on-ya who always gets So-nya someone will always get it wrong and you learn to just deal.  I agree that the nick name will help 🙂

Looking at it, I would automatically think it was pronounced like the herb… Which I actually dont mind. If you’re worried about pronunciation, perhaps spell it differently? Maybe Bacile or Bahsil or Bazil. Just some thoughts. Hazel and Bennent are adorable names, too 🙂

I would pronounce it like the herb, but to me that’s not bay-sil, but ba-sil
