Okay, I think I am going to sit for the PHR in the Spring. I am halfway done with my MHR and will not work until I complete the degree (December). I really feel like I need the certification to be a competitive candidate upon re-entry into the field (I will have only been out about 10 months).
Any bees take the PHR or SPHR? What did you do to study? How long did you study? And did you pass on your first try? I really only want to take this once for obvious reasons, and the fact the friggin’ test is $400…

@deetroitwhat: Did you take the test? I am looking to take the PHR next Spring. I would like any tips you may have! I do not plan on taking any courses or study groups, I would prefer to get all of the study materials online.
FYI- I have a degree in communications and journalism but I have been working as a payroll and onboarding administrator for 2 years and then an HR generalist for the past 3 years.

@SaraP2012: I did and I passed. I studied for about a week which is not recommended. I took it after 4 Master courses (one which is a baseline for the program) after about a month after the semester was over.
I mainly used Anne Bogardus’ book & the test question bank from Aaron Frias. I found his test bank was most like how the questions were on the test.
I bought the certgear test bank, but barely used it.
If you google PHR indeed – you will see a forum of a plethora of advice on there.
