Hi ladies! After being a hairstylist for 5 years, I have decided to get into college! I am slightly unsure of my career choice, but am leaning towards HR or some kind of career in communications.
What can I expect in this field? What are your daily tasks/duties? What was school like?
Any input/advice would be the greatest help to me! Thank you so much.

@MsSkinnyLatte: I really enjoyed my HR classes. You learn everything from ethics, budgeting, hiring processes, managerial processes, accounting, benefits etc. My first HR job was payroll and benefits. I did weekly payroll for about 500 employees as well as making sure their benefits were current and doing the yearly filing for them. I also helped with the hiring processes. I would go through applications, get referrals and then pass on the best candidates to my boss who would do the interviewing. When we got new hires I would do the company orientation. I also did the disciplinary portion, write ups etc. I had to look at the time clocks daily and make sure people weren’t clocking in late, leaving early etc. Oh and I did the vacation requests.
It really depends on where you work. I know some companies have one person who does each individual task such as one specifically for payroll, another specifically for hiring, another specifically for benefits etc. Other companies like the one I worked for had two of us helping each other with the day to day tasks and a manager who did the hiring, firing and whatever else he did.
