Are you in a specialized field?  I have a friend who is an HR manager for a company in a very specialized field, and a lot of time he recruits through word of mouth or company contacts.  He typically can’t just advertise a job like other companies, because he can’t find qualified applicants that way.

As far as calling you back immediately, a lot of things could have happened.  Maybe the HR manager has contacted several people about the position and is waiting to receive/review all of the materials before making any calls.  Maybe something urgent came up and you kinda got put on the backburner.  Maybe he’s just doesn’t follow-up properly.  I’d give him until next week to call you.  Try to contact him one more time, and if you can’t reach him, assume that hiring for that position is not a priority right now and move on.

I’d give it a week before reaching back out to him. He might need time to review what you sent him, review other canidates, maybe he is just the facilitator and he’s gathering the info for another manager and they need to review.

The good news is that someone saw something that they liked on your resume!

As an HR manager I can tell you that I am usually working on many many projects at the same time and recruiting isn’t always my top priority. It can take a dew days for me to follow up on something if it isn’t of an urgent nature. I also never just do passive recruiting via monster. The only time I do passive recruiting is if I am looking for someone with a ver specialized skill set / experience, and then I utilize resources like industry societies and referrals.

@ms. rice crispy treat: I am in a similar boat so I feel your pain with the waiting game.  I would email the first guy, and just ask if he had any more questions or needed any other material from you.  I would wait on the lady from Wednesday though.

I am so bad with this too.  I feel like I don’t want to bother people but come on! I need to know. hah  Good luck!

Don’t be over kill, but don’t give up, either. Sometimes places play games with people just to see how interested they really are.

@ms. rice crispy treat: You’ve done all you can do at this point. You also don’t want to sell yourself short. there’s interest and then like PP said, there’s overkill. Try to put it out of your mind. I know at this point, I would consider it a lost cause and if he surprises you, great!
