So its been a year and 3 months since trying to conceive and we’re finally doing something about it. My fiancé doesn’t go in for a seamin analysis til the 12th; however, I have an hsg appointment and if everything goes as planned they’ll also prescribe clomid. Has anyone had any luck with clomid? Does the HSG hurt (in other words do I need someone to drive me home)? Is there anything I should ask the doctor when going in? Ya’ know something you wish you would’ve asked when you were there? I can’t help but feel excited about it because we’ve been trying for so long. I know its the last thing I should do in case something is wrong and it can’t be fixed but its just a little spark of hope to keep trying.

the hsg was a little uncomfortable for me but only for a few seconds during the procedure. I got pregnant the next cycle after the hsg (had a miscarriage) and then got pregnant with my baby the month after that. I think the hsg helped get me pg after trying unsuccessfully for so many months. Good luck!

I didn’t find it hurt at all. In fact, I actually asked the Dr when they were going to do it and he said “….we already did”! It’s about on par with a pap in terms of how uncomfortable/painful it is. My Dr also recommended Advil beforehand (which I took), so that might have been why.
My Dr told me he finds it’s pretty pain-free for those with clear tubes….

It was a little uncomfortable when he inflated the balloon the catheter, but that’s about it. I was all clear. My period following the HSG was ridiculously heavy and very painful though. I think if there are blockages there might be some more discomfort/pain with the procedure.
I was hoping to get the post HSG fertility boost, but I got nothing. It’s been 4 cycles since I had it done.
I’ve never tried the clomid, my specialist didn’t recommend meds only for me as he said it didn’t have a high success rate since I was ovulating on my own. Instead he is suggesting meds and an IUI. Regardless, we think we might try just meds first.

My HSG caused cramping for about 10-15 seconds just as the dye flowed through. Just as it started to get a little uncomfortable, it was over, no worse than period cramps. I was planning on taking the rest of the day off from work after the lunch time appointment, but I was feeling perfect so just went back to work instead.
As for Clomid, I tried it 4 rounds (2 with IUI) and it didn’t work for me, but my isuses seems to be egg maturity, so I dont think Clomid was going to help with that. It als thinned out my lining to just about too low (~7mm).

I had the HSG done prior to my 5th round of clomid (there was miscommunication between my OB and the Fertility doctor) and I am now pregnant. I had read previously that the HSG can sometimes clear our your tubes and many people are then successful with pregnancy. I am not sure if we got pregnant from that and clomid, or that we were just really calm and not thinking about it much that cycle since we were preparing for the next step of injectables. Anyhow the HSG was a little uncomfortable, but nothing too bad and afterwards I drove my self back to work for the remainder of the day. Good Luck!

So I went to the doctor and I felt some discomfort unfortunately they tried to put a catheter in me three times with two different kinds and were unsuccessful. They have to send me elsewhere.

I’m sorry it ended up a bit complicated, hopefully you have better success at the other place.
