BeepBopB00p :  I was also very nervous leading up to mine because I read so many horror stories online beforehand. The actual procedure was very quick, and at the height of discomfort, it was over. I could see the screen as it was happening and the RE went over the image with me right after. The dye spilled out of my tubes and everything looked normal. I didn’t have any cramping afterward, just some gradual leakage of the dye. They provided huge pads for afterwards but I brought my own panty liners. So yes, it’s uncomfortable, but I figured that it would probably be one of the least painful aspects of pursuing IVF and pregnancy if we’re successful. Best of luck to you!

Make sure to take 2 extra strenth tylenol about 30 minutes before, it should help.  You should get results on the spot as they see if the dye spills out.  For me, it was just another check box of diagnostic tests so I wasn’t too worried about the results.  The pain wasn’t bad at all, like a reeeeeeaaaally bad period cramp for about 2 seconds, and just as it started to hurt it started to stop hurting too.  (My tubes were clear, but I think if’ theres blockage , it may hurt more).  I had mine mid day and was going to take the rest of the day off from work, but by the time I got dressed and left, I felt perfectly normal again and just went back to work instead.

BeepBopB00p :  I was so scared before mine because I had read all these horror stories online. My RE told me I shouldnt have googled and that I may experience some strong cramping but it would be quick.  I was shaking through the whole thing but ended up barely feeling a thing! Some minor cramping that was so no big deal! They told me I didnt have any blockages right away. If there is a blockage it may hurt more but it should be quick! Take some tylenol before hand. Its defiantly worth making sure your tubes arent blocked! Good luck!!

I did two of them about a month and a half apart – the first I thought I had a blocked tube and wanted to do surgery but the results were questionable so I asked for another one before surgery, and it was clear. As other people have said, they tell you the results right there. I found it very uncomfortable the first time, but not quite as bad the second time. I took Tylenol and I don’t know that it helped much. I felt mostly fine right after, and just super minor cramping the rest of the day. Not overly fun but not too bad.

Mine wasn’t bad. Some cramping but nothing crazy.
