I had mine done after an ectopic pregnancy. I had one second of “what is that?” awkward feeling but no pain. I was so nervous but it was totally fine. Good luck to you. My remaining tube was open, but we have been TTC for 9 months since with no luck.

I had mine done just last week. I was really nervous after googling other people’s experiences (bad idea!) but it was no worse then a Pap test. There was some mild cramping when the dye went in but I was distracted by watching the screen, I thought it was pretty cool to see everything. I didn’t have any blockages and the cramps were just like AF cramps but not as bad. I could have gone back to work after but I had already taken the rest of the day off.

Mine was a breeze! I had a small, very mild cramp for about 5 seconds and that was it.

I had one done 4 years ago. I don’t think my OB and I talked “pain”, but it was pretty uncomfortable but not too painful – just really crampy. I ended up getting pregnant my next cycle – 2 weeks after the test. It came back normal but my OB said it’s not uncommon to get pregnant following the test because if you did have a blockage that didn’t show up on the test, like mucus or something “soft” the z-ray didn’t pick up, the dye will help clear that out. Good luck!

Thanks everyone! My Dr said the test would just be mild cramping, and then of course I came home and googled it like an idiot. No one ever posts positive experiences so I read all these horror stories about how painful it was. One of my friends then tells me about how she was getting ready to have it done (when she ended up PG on her own) but was worried about “how bad it hurt”.
I think I’m going to hold off and if we aren’t PG by January I’ll have it done then.

One more question :
For those who had it done, did they find anything like a blocked tube or were you all clear? My OB did say that people sometimes do become pregnant right after having it done because it is essentially flushing out the tubes.

starfish0116 : I did not have any blockages, and I just got a BFP a couple days ago — so one cycle after the HSG.

starfish0116 : I had one done since we have been trying with no luck. I must say it was painful. What hurt the most was the clamping of the cervix. The pinch feeling lasted for days and I had bleeding for a day because of it. The injection of the dye caused pretty bad cramping but it lasted for a few seconds (during that time it felt like forever). My test results showed clear tubes. I had all my tests done before Darling Husband. Sadly, we found out he is the issue with the inferiltiy. Wish we knew that other wise I wouldnt have wanted to go through it. If you are not in a rush and everything else is coming up fine for you guys I would wait. It cost me around $800 and I am on insurance. I would temp and do opk’s for at least two-three months first. If you are in a rush I would say do the HSG.

mama2bee71 : I’ve been off of BC for over 2.5 years, NTNP, and actively TTC for the last 7 months. I’ve been charting since I came off oc BC.
I think I’ve decided to hold off on the test until January or February.

I took Advil before and was very lucky in that the procedure didn’t hurt at all. I had some mild cramping afterwards but nothing crazy. They also didn’t find any blockage which affects the pain.
