Today I had my first HSG test done. Due to my cervix and uterus not “cooperating” it was amazingly painful. About an hour later I had minor cramping, but now hours later I have such severe abdominal pain that it hurts to even walk. I called my RE thinking that I may have an infection from the procedure, but the nurse said it may be air in there from the procedure. Any others have this happen?

I haven’t had this test, but just wanted to say I’m sorry you’re going through this! That sucks, and I hope it feels better ASAP!

I’m sorry to hear it was painful! I had cramping two days after the HSG that was about a pain level of 5. If you are in intense pain, I would go see your doctor…that’s not normal. Good luck!!

I had mine done this cycle and yes, it was so painful that I had to hold back my tears, but couldn’t, but then again I cant really tolerate pain. Anyway, I bled after the procedure was over but not for long, I didn’t have abdominal pain, but I was very sore overall that I had to be off work for 2 days, even walking felt weird. I spotted for about two days. The doctor said that as long as I dont have fever and Im not bleeding then I just had to wait it out to feel better, and eventually I did. I also felt like I was full of air down there. It’s hard to explain that, but I was gassy and ovulated later than usual. GL I hope you feel better soon! 😉

@Hbhb: How are you feeling? Did you try to take any OTC pain relievers?
I’ve had 2 HSGs done…first one HURT during the procedure but not afterwards, 2nd one, they couldn’t even get everything set up fast enough the dye was pouring through my tubes….no pain after that one.
Oh and they did one during my lap last month….I was in pain but I think it was from all the scraping/burning they were doing inside me to remove endo.
What did they say about your procedure? How’s everything looking?

@Hbhb: I just had one done on the 1st. I would call your doctor. They said mild cramping like a period. Mine hurt like hell when it was getting done. Afterwards I was fine. I hope it’s just “air” like they said and nothing more serious. Did they say if your tubes are clear?

Thank you all for responding!! My pain lasted about 2 days and then I felt normal!
The dr doing the test told me my left tube was occluded, however, my RE looked at the films and said all is normal!?!? Who to listen to??

@Hbhb: Oh no! If I were you I would go with the occluded diagnosis just in case…what would be the next step if that were true?

i had it 4 days ago, and i still feel so much pain. i still bleed. i hope the pain will go away soon.

mine didnt hurt at all really, just mild cramps like you would get to the tail end of period pain
I wouldnt hope its ‘just’ air… an air bubble can enter the blood stream under pressure and then lodge in the heart or brain and kill you
did you get your results? ive only ever heard of it being painfull if there is a blockage or scar tissue that stops the flow… it causes a pressure build up thats apparently very painful but I cant comment personally as mine where open and flowing
edit: damn it… Zombie food again
