@healthily_married: you want to do it BEFORE bootcamp? I would think that would be a pretty sad party 🙁 Basic training is pretty hard though! Maybe you should have some fun Basic related activities… tug-o-war.. etc.. idk? lol

@healthily_married: aw. that is awesome! good for him! my Fiance just went to Marine Boot Camp in San Diego (and he is gonna be 27! lol).  I think a going away party is a good thing. My FI’s family and I threw one for him and it went great.  It was in conjunction with his nephew’s 1st birthday so we were able to get little military helmets and stuff… but i got him cupcaked with camo colored icing and dog tags made out of fondant. (maybe you can get the army star made out of fondant?)

these are the one’s I made for my Fiance, Mike. =)

Also, keep it relaxed since he probably has a lot on his mind.  just hanging out at home… inspirational signs/banners that say you’ll miss him and good luck.  oh yeah and make sure whatever you do, include a lot of home cooked good food. =)

My son is in the Air National Guard and went to Afghanistan in November. I was torn about a party – he had been traveling quite a bit and really wanted to see his firends and family that he hadn’t seen for a while. we didn’t call it a good bye party – it was more of a celebration showing him how much we supported him and our troops.

I had dog tags made for everyone, again in support of him (not in remembrance of him), protecting our freedom and to encourage everyone to support our troops. We had 75 dog tags total, they were all given out and I hear from so many people who still wear them daily, until he comes home and others who have hung them around their rear view mirrior – to remind them of him every day.

They were not very costsly, you can create your own. I was so glad to have had them made and to have thrown the party – I encouraged all of the guests to bring “care package” items that I have shipped to him and his unit since he left. Th e good news is that will be back home by Mid-May, they have all been safe over there – Thank goodness.

I would think your husband would cherish the thought of everyone thinking about him during this hared accomplishment. My son still talks about his party.

Good luck and the best to your husband! Our mitary men, women and families deserve so much support –

I’m going to have a pre-deployment party for my Fiance before he goes in a couple of months.

Since he is going to be deployed during his bd I am going to surprise him with BD gifts and a BD cake complete with candles during this party. I don’t want him to get jipped on any special celebrations just because he is away.  I will also let whomever is invited in on this so they can get him his gift early too.  And suggest what he needs for his tour, like DVDs and phone cards and stuff like that.

So maybe if your hubby will be missing any special events, add those into his send off?

My Darling Husband is going to Navy basic in July and he’ll be there during his birthday in August.  So, I am throwing him a going away/birthday party in May so he’ll have NO idea it’s coming!

My plan is to ask each guest to bring a happy birthday letter and picture of themselves with Darling Husband and then I’ll keep them and send them to him on or around his birthday.  It sucks that I can’t send a care package to him, but I figured this will make up for it in a way.

I am also going to make him a submarine cake!!  I am still figuring out how to do it, but I am really excited!
