Although our weddings sounds a bit different I’ll give you the information I have for mine:

Getting married just north of Lake George in a barn as well. Fiance wanted BBQ and we are also on a budget. We (he) found a restaurant in South Lake George that will cater our wedding (buffet style) and staff 2 people (for 100pp) for abour $23/guest. He is also including plates (nice plastic ones which we are fine with), utensils (we will be renting real and not plastic), and napkins (already paid for linen..gotta make it look a little classy!) I was budgeting $44 initially and was happy to get this quote. Now I just need to find somebody for the beer and wine! Any suggestions?

@amy.belzer:  Contact Ed Shea at Shaker Ridge.  They can provide bar service.  Send me a private message if you need any more suggestions.  I’m near you 😉

I am also having a barn wedding in the Hudson Valley. You can totally do what you’re talking about for $80/person, but keep in mind, that will NOT include rentals, which will probably add around $4K or even more to your total budget. I am having a welcome table with tea sandwiches and drinks, passed hor d’ourves plus two stations, family style dinner, and open bar which is costing me about 12-13K for 125 people. One thing we’re doing to keep costs down is to buy all our own alcohol, but have the bartenders provide all mixers, sodas, teas, etc. I hope that helps! We found a few caterers in this price range, but plenty of others who wanted 5K+ more…so while it is doable, it will still require a bit of detective work.

We are having a historic house wedding in the hudson valley and are paying $125 a head for this including rentals, tax and service charges, but with a buffet instead of a sit-down dinner and our venue does have a kitchen.

@Noraavon:  Who have you talked to? I don’t think anyone quoted me quite that high. I had appointments with Gourmet to Go and Catering House of Edward Fava that both were quoted around your budget. I am using Ed Fava, but I wouldn’t feel comfortable recommending anyone until after my wedding.

@whitums:  We had a meeting with Gourmet to Go, they were so nice, but we also went with someone else. I think our costs work out to about the same, $12-13K for 125 not including the bar.

@lotto:  Did you meet with Billy? They were super nice, and I fell in love Millbrook when we were there. Such a cute town!

@whitums:  Yes! Billy was amazing and super helpful, I had a hard time telling him that we didn’t want to work with him.

@Noraavon:  Its not impossible, but I can see how they would have quoted you that much. If you add the stuff for the kitchen and include the bar our quote would have been closer to $18-19K
