My Mother-In-Law to be rented a beautiful big ball room with circle tables, chairs and dancefloor included. The problem is the walls, ceiling and floor are all white. I’m afraid of things looking “washed out”. What is the best way to decorate a large room, also I need ideas on DIY (or cost effective) table decor. The wedding ceremony will be very traditional ivory/black, but I want color or a statement in our reception. Our wedding is in late May (spring!) Any ideas?!?

Up lighting and draping are the first things that come to my mind.

Colored lighting to match your colors. A blank canvass… Lucky you!

If you want a typical wedding look, you could do draping and uplighting.
Personally, I’m not a fan.
If you want color and something fun, you could hang parasols from the ceiling (April showers bring May flowers)
or branches hung parallel to the ceiling-add silk flowers with hot glue
you could mix in paper lanterns or pomanders
a lot depends on what access you have to hang things. Some venues are really strict about that.
There are zillions of ideas for centerpieces. Have you started looking on Pinterest and pinning things you like to your own Boards? After a while you will see a pattern emerging.
Also search centerpieces here on WeddingBee and see some of the creative ideas Bees have come up with.
A white room is not a negative. It is a blank canvas. Do you have pics of your venue?
