I recently read somewhere that hula hooping for about 20 mins a day can strengthen and tone abs. I find crunches and situps very boring so am looking for some way to tone my abs quickly before the wedding. The rest of me is pretty well in shape. My tummy needs a bit of rescuing.
Has anyone else tried this? Do you bees have any other tips? I also get a bloated tummy about 10 days before Aunt Flo visits .. sniff. Any tips for that?
Thanks in advance :-).

A friend of mine got really into hula hooping, and she’s in gorgeous shape now. I think she also started running at the same time, so I’m not sure how much of the stength/toning she gained came from hula hooping vs. running, but I know she enjoyed the hula hooping!

Not sure about the hula hoop but the big exercise ball (the one you sit on ) works the best! I hate doing regular crunches on the floor, using the ball really works and I am sore the next day.

I HOOP!!!!! I love it and it is a great workout for you. You can feel the ‘ab’ workout part of it after you go for a run and then jump into your hoop. Proof that it does work the abs. The type of hoop you’d want would be heavier for ab benefits.

My sister swears by hula hoop dancing as a workout and she’s pretty athletic.

I have a weighted hula hoop that my mom gave me. It’s a work out but for me its not something I can do all the time. It kinda hurts if you’re not used to it! And not a “feel the burn” hurt but more of a “the heavy hoop keeps hitting my sides” way.

@cora_123: I tried a weighted one and I felt the same way–it hurt my sides!
I have had regular hula hoops for years and its a great cardio workout–you will work up a sweat!

@cora_123: The weighted ones will hurt more. The one I have is from Hoopnotica (they sell gently used hoops). You can find them on etsy or http://www.hoopcity.ca in the classifieds- which also has tons of advertisers for hoops. Troohoops also has ‘sale’ hoops.

I’ve heard of this, and I think it makes sense. I’m just not sure how long I could hula before boredom set in.
