It absolutely does not defeat the purpose if you know what to eat after working out.  Of course you’re hungry- your body wants to fuel itself after working hard!  Eat a snack that’s less calories than you’ve burned, but is full of protein and complex carbs.  A protein shake is a great way to acheive this without consuming too many calories.  But you need to replenish- in the longrun you’ll get better results and get stronger.

After working out, feed your body with a high protein meal (Greek yogurt, eggs, protein shake, etc).  You’re clearly just hungry and have depleted your energy stores!

My personal trainer is adamant that I absolutely must eat afterwards, something about the body using the fuel much more efficiently. I usually have an omelette  – anything heavy on the protein.

You are hungry after a work out because your blood sugar is lower.  As PP said eat a hgh protein meal after a work out.  You may also be dehydrated so drink plent of water.

To see the best results you have to eat between 15-45 minutes after a workout. Include high protein, and if your workout is over an hour you MUST include carbs! Trust me as a physical therapist with a license in nutrition 😊

Are you staying hydrated? It’s easy to mistake thirst for hunger.

Kandykane : That’s completely normal. Your body has just used up so much energy, it needs to refuel. ALWAYS eat after a workout!! Depending on your goals, either a high protein/high carb/low fat or high protein/medium carb/low fat meal is best.

You absolutely need to eat within about 30ish min of your workout! I usually drink my post workout recovery shake, which is high in protein…or eggs. I love eggs lol.

I also have to get better about my post workout meals.

If you think EATING “defeats the purpose” of a workout, then you are working out for all the wrong reasons. You should be working out to be healthy, give yourself more energy, add muscle, etc, and eating is a HUGE component of that.

Please do not be working out and starving yourself at the same time to lose weight. That is so incredibly stressful to every system in your body.
